Who is Beowulf?

Beowulf is a strong hero from Geatland, he had a lot of pride and enjoyed fighting. He was known for his strength and the many battles won. Although Beowulf was a hero, had strength, pride, and his warriors alongside him, he had major flaws. Beowulf was very lustful which caused him to lose everything. His desires for woman allowed him to make the wrong decisions in situations and eventually led to his death. He accomplished many achievements and defeated plenty of monsters while saving many people to building his reputation.


How Beowulf became king

Beowulf became king after defeating the monster Grendel who only lurked during the night, which drastically boosted his reputation. He was thanked and cherished for killing Grendel inside the mead hall. Due to the King Hrothgar's death Beowulf was chosen to be the next king of Danes. Beowulf ruled for 50 years before he died. In some poems, Beowulf becomes the king due to some of his bloodline passing away.


Anglo-Saxton culture

The Anglo-Saxton society were all about warriors and valued hero's with high reputation. They had high respect for hero's with strength and bravery. Things like family, honor, loyalty, tribes, and beliefs were very important to people. The Anglo-Saxton timeline lasted from 450 AD to 1066 AD. Warriors in this timeline often used weapons like crossbows, knifes, spears, swords, and shields.
